Mosque Dome Leak Repair

Dome leakage should be diagnosed as a system failure, not patched only where water appears inside. Seams, finial bases, flashings, valleys, penetrations, substrate, condensation and rainwater discharge all need review.

Rule: map internal staining against external geometry and weather history before opening the dome.

1. Common leak paths

  • Standing seams
  • Finial penetration
  • Perimeter flashing
  • Half-dome valleys
  • Cladding fasteners
  • Transitions to adjacent roofs
  • Condensation beneath cladding

2. Diagnose before patching

Water testing, close-up inspection and concealed-layer checks may be needed where the source is uncertain.

3. Repair hierarchy

Local repair
For isolated defects with sound surrounding system.
Partial recladding
For defined zones of end-of-life material.
Full recladding
For widespread systemic failure.
Substructure repair
Where support or substrate is damaged.

4. Condensation

Not every drip is rain penetration. Review cavity ventilation, insulation and interior humidity.

5. Quality checks

  • Substrate condition recorded
  • Flashings complete
  • Seams correctly formed
  • Penetrations sealed
  • Drainage path clear
